Last week, Samsung introduced the new flagship smartphones of the Galaxy S23 series, but the entry of the Korean company into 2023 is far from over. Soon we should expect to see the unveiling of the new generation of the best-selling mid-range models – the Galaxy A54 and A34. What will Samsung want to impress this year? This betrays the complete escapism he traditionally stands for German server WinFuture.
Samsung Galaxy A54: waterproof mid-range
The more equipped phone from the upcoming pair will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, but with a few minor improvements. Between generations, there will be a slight reduction, instead of a 6.5″ display, Samsung will use a 6.4″ display. It will again be a flat SuperAMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and support for a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz.
In the circular hole at the top in the middle, we find a selfie camera with a high resolution of 32 megapixels, and Samsung puts three cameras on the back:
- 50 Mpx main
- 12 Mpx wide angle
- 5MP macro
The relatively unnecessary fourth sensor for capturing depth disappears from the assembly. Following the example of the latest flagship models, Samsung does not use any uniting module, but puts the lenses under each other separately. According to the published images, the back will be produced at least in black, white, purple and green, we can also look forward to the declared IP67 resistance.
The heart of the phone will be the brand new Exynos 1380 chipset with an octa-core processor. The four main cores should be clocked at 2.4 GHz, while the four economy cores at 2 GHz. According to benchmarks, single-core performance should increase by a modest 5 percent between generations, while multi-core by 30 percent. The Mali-G68 chip will reportedly take care of graphics operations, which should offer decent performance even for gaming.
RAM capacity is to increase to 8 GB, storage will be offered in capacities of 128 and 256 GB. The internal memory should continue to be expandable with a memory card. In the field of wireless connectivity, the Galaxy A54 will rely on 5G (dual SIM), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth and NFC, the only port on the body of the phone should be USB-C. This will serve, among other things, to charge the 5000mAh battery with a maximum output of 25 watts. The phone will run the Android 13 operating system with the One UI superstructure, for which Samsung will undoubtedly offer an above-standard long software support.
Samsung Galaxy A34: bet on MediaTek
While the Galaxy A54 is supposed to be smaller compared to the previous generation, Samsung will go in the opposite direction with the Galaxy A34 – its display will reportedly grow from 6.4 to 6.6″. In this case, too, the Korean company bets on a SuperAMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, but instead of a circular opening for the 13 Mpx selfie camera, it uses a drop-shaped cutout.
On the back, we should again find three cameras with the same resolution as last year:
- 48 Mpx main
- 8 Mpx wide angle
- 5MPx macro
Even in this case, the depth sensor, which had a resolution of only 2 Mpx in last year’s model, will be dropped from the set.
The Galaxy A34 will reportedly say goodbye to the chipset of its own production, instead betting on the MediaTek Helio 900 (MT6877V) with eight processor cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz. The phone should be available in Europe with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, but there should also be a variant with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In both cases, it should be possible to increase the storage with a memory card. Wireless connectivity and battery capacity should be the same as the Galaxy A54, as well as the maximum power of the charger. The increased IP67 resistance will also please you.
Estimated European prices
At the moment, we do not know when Samsung will present its mid-range news, but according to WinFuture.de, we should expect an intergenerational increase in price. The Galaxy A54 is said to cost around 500 euros, while the price of the Galaxy A34 should be around 400 euros. - Galaxy A54 in 8/128 GB variant… 530-550 euros (12,600 to 13,000 crowns with VAT)
- Galaxy A54 in the 8/256 GB variant… 590-610 euros (about 14,000 to 14,500 crowns with VAT)
- Galaxy A34 in the 6/128 GB variant… 410-430 euros (about 9,700 to 10,200 crowns with VAT)
- Galaxy A34 in the 8/256 GB variant… 470-490 euros (about 11,100 to 11,600 crowns with VAT)
