Samsung Galaxy A10: entry-level smartphone in check

Samsung reissued its entry-level and middle class a while ago. From the Galaxy A10 to Galaxy A90, the smartphones have been given a new name that sorts the devices according to their performance. The Galaxy A10 at the beginning of the series accordingly offers the features of an entry-level smartphone paired with a good price.

Samsung Galaxy A10: Cheap at Aldi and with free SIM

The Samsung Galaxy A10’s suggested retail price is 169 euros. However, many online retailers are now selling the device significantly cheaper. The smartphone is available from around 135 euros including shipping. The offer from Aldi, which starts on April 29, is cheaper. The food discounter sells the Galaxy A10 in both its northern and southern branches for 119 euros. There is also the starter package from Aldi Talk, which has a regular price of 12.99 euros. In a bundle with the prepaid SIM, the Galaxy A10 is currently the cheapest at discounters.

Aldi Talk is the discounter’s own mobile phone brand. The prepaid starter package already has 10 euros in credit. Aldi Talk implements its services in the O2 network and offers various prepaid options with a term of 28 days, which can be flexibly booked at the basic rate. An Allnet Flat with 3 GB LTE data volume is available, for example, for 7.99 euros per four weeks. Without a booked tariff, users make calls to other Aldi-Talk customers for 3 cents per minute and to all other networks for 11 cents. SMS are just as expensive. Since the Samsung Galaxy A10 works without SIM and Netlock, owners can also operate other SIM cards in the device.

The Samsung Galaxy A10 offers this performance

With its 6.2-inch display, the Galaxy A10 offers plenty of space for presentations. The resolution of 1,520 x 720 pixels (HD +) is somewhat low for the display size. This shows the drawbacks that Samsung has to make in this price range. Nevertheless, the screen presents itself in a modern look. Samsung relies on an infinity display in 19: 9 format and thereby manages to keep the case compact. The screen is only interrupted by a small, teardrop-shaped notch, which houses the 5 megapixel front camera with f / 2.0 aperture.

There is another camera on the back, which takes pictures with up to 13 megapixels. The f / 1.9 aperture is only slightly larger than that of the front camera. Unfortunately, it cannot keep up with the large apertures of the higher-priced models (up to f / 1.3), which is why the Galaxy A10 is not quite so suitable for shooting in dim light or at night. With a price of significantly less than 200 euros, the smartphone is also much cheaper.

Samsung uses the in-house Exynos 7884 in the Galaxy A10 together with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB expandable memory. The processor consists of a total of eight cores, which are divided into two Cortex-A73 cores with up to 1.6 GHz and six energy-saving A53 cores with up to 1.35 GHz. The Exynos 7884 is manufactured using the 14-nanometer process and is accompanied by the Mali-G71 MP2 graphics unit. With a maximum bandwidth of 150 Mbit / s downstream, the LTE module is also rather weaker. Surfing via WLAN is only possible in the 2.4 GHz band, since the Galaxy A10 only supports WLAN b / g / n.

Overall, the chip is a solid entry-level model that copes well with regular smartphone applications. Users who frequently play games on their cell phones or like to run several applications in parallel should, however, look around for a different model because the performance of the Galaxy A10 is too low. You can find alternative and particularly powerful models in our overview of Smartphones up to 400 euros.

The capacity of the battery of the Galaxy A10 is decent at 3,400 mAh. In addition, the device supports the current Bluetooth 5.0 and real dual SIM, so it offers two SIM slots regardless of that of the microSD card. Android 9 Pie runs on the Galaxy A10 and thus a current system. The update to Android 10 is expected to be rolled out in May. However, users have to do without a fingerprint sensor for unlocking. As an alternative, the classic methods PIN, password and pattern or face unlock are available.

Alternatives to the Galaxy A10

With the Samsung Galaxy A10, buyers get a solid entry-level smartphone at a low price, which shows itself in a modern look with a large display. It impresses with highlights such as Bluetooth 5.0, real dual SIM and a solid battery. The performance is okay, but not suitable for more complex tasks. It is also a shame that users have to do without a fingerprint sensor and WLAN ac.

In the overview of smartphones up to 200 euros, TECHBOOK listed models that have a similar price. This shows that the equipment is in some cases significantly better in slightly more expensive models. Double the memory, dual cameras and a better processor are almost standard here.
