Integrated chip that acts as the brain of a smartphone… Also installed on Galaxy S21
5nm EUV process introduced… “Best performance ever”
240 trillion operations per second… Maximize AI ability
Compatible with all 5G frequencies… Can be used in various communication environments

On the 12th, Samsung Electronics unveiled’Exynos 2100′, a mobile AP (application processor) that boasts the highest performance ever, through the Samsung Electronics newsroom and Exynos homepage. The Exynos 2100 is installed on Samsung Electronics’ smartphone Galaxy S21, which will be released on the 15th at 12 am (Korean time) and acts as a brain.

According to Samsung Electronics, Exynos 2100 is produced by a 5 nm (nanometer·1 billionth of a meter) extreme ultraviolet (EUV) process. By applying the latest mobile AP design technology, CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (graphics processing unit) performance improved by more than 30% and 40%, respectively. On-device AI (artificial intelligence settled in the device) has also improved significantly.

The new product was manufactured in the form of a 5G modem integrated chip for the first time as a mobile AP of Samsung Electronics. This provides optimal performance in high-end gaming as well as multitasking environments.

Kang In-yeop, head of Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Division (President), said, “The Exynos 2100 is equipped with the latest EUV process and the latest design technology to achieve more powerful performance than the previous model and even more advanced AI functions. “We will set a new standard for premium mobile devices with mobile AP innovation.”

◇ Discard your own design and use ARM core… Strengthening artificial intelligence

Samsung Electronics used the standard core of the British semiconductor design company ARM for the Exynos 2100. It is a’Tri-Cluster structure’ equipped with one high-performance’Cortex-X1′, three’Cortex-A78′, and four low-power’Cortex-A55′ that are driven up to 2.9GHz. . Thanks to this, Samsung Electronics explained that the multi-core performance of the Exynos 2100 has improved by more than 30% compared to the previous one.

In addition, the latest ARM Mali-G78 is adopted as a GPU, and the graphics performance is increased by more than 40% compared to the previous one. Through this, fast and realistic graphics processing is possible, enabling users to increase user immersion in mixed reality (MR) devices such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) along with gaming.

The enhanced on-device AI function of the Exynos 2100 was created through the design of three next-generation NPU cores and an acceleration function that eliminates unnecessary computation. It has secured AI computation performance of more than 26 trillion times per second (26 TOPS, Tera Operations Per Second), enabling advanced AI computation on the terminal itself without data exchange with a central cloud server.

The enhanced AI performance processes large-scale data quickly and protects users’ privacy even when the internet connection network is lost. A company official said, “There is an advantage of using a stable AI service.”

Paul Williamson, vice president and general manager of the ARM client division, said, “Faster mobile communication, improved graphics performance and artificial intelligence are attracting attention as important technologies necessary to provide a new mobile user experience.” “Samsung Electronics launched in close cooperation with ARM. “Exynos 2100″ will be the best mobile solution required for next-generation smart devices.”

◇ 200 million pixel image processing capability… Covers up to 5G communication in the ultra-high frequency band

Exynos 2100 is equipped with a high-performance ISP (Image Signal Processor) capable of processing up to 200 million pixel images. Connect up to 6 image sensors and simultaneously drive 4 image sensors. It supports a dynamic shooting function that utilizes images and videos input through image sensors of various angles of view such as wide-angle and telephoto.

5G modem covers all 5G networks with one chip, reducing the area occupied by parts. It has improved the convenience of designing mobile devices. Not only the low frequency band (sub-6), but also the ultra high frequency band (millimeter wave·mmWave), it supports all major frequencies. It can be widely used in various communication environments.

◇ Reduce power consumption through microprocessing… Ultimately contribute to carbon emission reduction

Exynos 2100 produced by the 5nm process reduced power consumption by 20% compared to the 7nm process. The power used for AI computation is also half that of before. On top of this, the burden of battery consumption is greatly reduced when running high-definition and high-end games and programs by installing its own solution’AMIGO (Advanced Multi-IP Governor)’ that optimizes power efficiency.

This effort is expected to reduce the number of times the battery is charged for smart devices using Exynos. In the end, Samsung Electronics explains that it also contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions.

“Samsung Electronics is constantly striving to provide the best mobile experience to its customers,” said Kim Kyung-joon, head of the Samsung Electronics Wireless Business Division (IM) development department. “Exynos 2100’s strong core performance and advanced AI function are It contributed greatly to the development of the phone.”

Meanwhile, the Exynos 2100 is currently in mass production, and will soon be installed on Samsung Electronics’ new smartphone Galaxy S21, which has an official public event.
