Samsung Electronics announced its will to lead the AI semiconductor era by operating its foundry plant in Texas, USA, as scheduled in the second half of next year.
On the other hand, Taiwan’s TSMC is having difficulty building a US plant due to labor shortages and conflicts with labor unions.

Samsung Electronics’ plan to build a Taylor Foundry plant, which is being built with the largest US investment ever, 17 billion dollars, about 22 trillion won, is going smoothly.
President Gyeong Gyung-hyun announced on his personal SNS that he plans to start mass production of 4-nanometer products produced in the United States at the end of next year for the United States.
Then, he expressed his confidence in leading the AI semiconductor market, saying that he would cooperate with customers to create value in the AI era with new chip and package technologies.
Earlier, President Kyung posted a photo of the Taylor factory under construction on social media last month, saying that the interior work of the first factory had begun.
In comparison, TSMC, the world’s No. 1 foundry company, continues to face difficulties in constructing a plant in Arizona, USA.
We are building two factories by investing 40 billion dollars, or about 53 trillion won, in Phoenix, and we planned to start operating the first process facility next year.
However, TSMC announced in its second quarter earnings announcement last month that it would delay mass production of 4-nano products by one year to 2025 due to a lack of professional manpower.
Then, when he promised to bring in hundreds of skilled workers from Taiwan to fill the shortage this time, the local union in Arizona protested and asked the Congress to stop issuing visas.
This difference in process seems to reflect the know-how of Samsung Electronics, which is already operating a semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas.
However, experts predicted that it would be confirmed in the next two to three years whether Samsung Electronics’ confidence will lead to substantial strengthening of its foundry competitiveness.
