Samsung Electronics announced on the 22nd that the cumulative donations made through the Galaxy smartphone’s sustainability application “Samsung Global Goals” exceeded US$10 million (about KRW 13 billion).
This is a result achieved in 3 years since the launch of the app. The app is currently installed on approximately 300 million Galaxy smartphones, tablets and wearables. Any Galaxy user can download and use it on their Galaxy product.
The Samsung Global Golds app is a jointly launched app with Samsung Electronics and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). It was created with the aim of solving various challenges facing the earth.
The app introduces the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UNDP, including education issues, climate change and poverty eradication, and various activities that young people around the world are undertaking to achieve them.
In particular, this app is structured so that users can easily participate in donations by viewing advertisements within the app. In this process, Samsung Electronics matches the amount of donations collected by users at a 1:1 ratio and donates them together.
The amount raised through the app goes to the UNDP. It will support various youth activities in more than 100 countries around the world to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
UNDP Secretary-General Achim Steiner said, “Samsung Electronics’ achievement this time has been of great help in accelerating the achievement of the global Sustainable Development Goals,” adding, “It also inspires more young people to join the ‘objective”.
Roh Tae-moon, president of MX Business Division of Samsung Electronics, said, “I believe that Samsung Electronics’ technology can help solve various problems plaguing the earth.”
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is also developing the “Generation 17” project to support 14 young leaders who are contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.
Samsung Electronics supports young leaders through Galaxy technology and encourages more young people to participate by advertising their businesses extensively.
