Applying many AI functions to Bespoke
Samsung Electronics’ Bespoke AI on an outdoor advertisement in New York’s Times Square Samsung Electronics ranked first in market share in the United States, the world’s largest home appliance market, last year. According to market research company Trackline on the 10th, Samsung Electronics recorded a 21% market share in the U.S. home appliance market in 2023. LG Electronics ranked second with 19%, followed by GE (18%) and Whirlpool (15%). In terms of market share based on sales volume, Samsung Electronics ranked first with 19%. GE showed 17%, LG Electronics 16%, and Whirlpool 16%. Samsung Electronics has an advantage over its competitors not only in terms of market share but also in American consumer preference. When asked about ‘what brands consumers consider when purchasing home appliances,’ Samsung Electronics was the largest answer at 32%. LG Electronics was at 29%, and GE and Whirlpool were at 28% each.
Samsung Electronics is actively seeking to expand its share of the U.S. home appliance market by introducing new products and services that improve connectivity and usability based on artificial intelligence (AI). The launch of Bespoke, a customized home appliance, is considered a representative example of the extensive application of AI functions. For example, the ‘Bespoke AI Family Hub’ refrigerator uses the ‘AI Vision Inside’ function, which uses an internal camera to recognize food ingredients coming in and out and informs them of storage expiration dates. ‘Bespoke AI Combo’, an all-in-one washer and dryer, detects the weight, type, and degree of contamination of laundry based on AI and washes them. It also provides an ‘AI customized course’ where the internal sensor periodically detects the internal dryness level and dries to the optimal condition. The ‘Bespoke AI Steam’ robot vacuum cleaner can recognize and avoid various objects using the front camera sensor based on an AI DNN (Deep Neural Network) model using 1.7 million object data.
Since the 3rd, Samsung Electronics has been running an outdoor advertisement promoting the ‘AI Vision Inside’ function of the ‘Bespoke AI Family Hub’ refrigerator in Times Square, New York, USA. A Samsung Electronics official said, “We will maintain the No. 1 market share in the U.S. market this year by leading the way with premium AI home appliances.”
