Country: Samsung announced the latest imaging sensor “ISOCELL HP2” with a huge resolution of 200 megapixels, and it is characterized by the support of “enhanced pixel technology, and the full ability to capture stunning images in leading smartphones.”
Samsung said that the new ISOCELL HP2 imaging sensor includes 200 million pixels, each measuring 0.6 micrometers, in an area of 1/1.3 inch.
And Samsung explained that the sensor, thanks to its advanced pixel merging technology, “Tetra2pixel”, adds more diversity to the camera because it simulates different pixel sizes to accommodate different levels of light.
When in low-light environments, the sensor either converts to a 50MP 1.2µm pixel sensor, or a 12.5MP 2.4µm sensor by connecting 4 to 16 contiguous pixels.
For 8K video, the ISOCELL HP2 sensor switches to 50MP mode with a 1.2µm pixel size to reduce clipping and capture more of the scene.
And shooting in 8K at 30 frames per second can produce clear, cinematic videos, according to Samsung.
Samsung said the new sensor can significantly reduce blurry images captured in brightly lit environments, thanks to Samsung’s new “D-VTG” Double Vertical Transfer Gate technology.
And in low-light conditions, the ISOCELL HP2 sensor provides faster and more accurate autofocus thanks to Super QPD technology, which allows the sensor to use 200 million pixels to focus.
