Latvian beach volleyball duo Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Jānis Šmēdiņš won the first subgroup A match at the European Championship in Jūrmala on Wednesday, securing a place in the playoffs.

Samoilovs / Šmēdiņš, who were placed with the 16th number, defeated Estonians Kusti Nelvaks and Marta Tīsārs (17th) with the result 2-0 (21:17, 21:18).

For the victory in subgroup A, Samoilov / Šmēdiņš will meet with the strong Norwegians Anders Mol / Kristian Sorum, who are the main favorites of the tournament and placed with the first number.
