Samer Al-Masry Attends Screening of Film ‘Exodus’ at Sharjah International Film Festival

The events of the film take place in Syria during the conflicts of the past years, where a missile destroys the roof of the house of the 14-year-old girl, Zeina “Hala Zein”, so she then sleeps under the stars for the first time, and establishes a friendship with Amer “Nizar Al-Ani”, the boy next door, and as the violence escalates, her mother insists Hala “Kinda Alloush” is about to leave and enters into a conflict with her husband Moataz “Samer Al-Masry”, who refuses to become a refugee and prevents his family from leaving the house.

The movie “Exodus” was written and directed by Soudad Kaadan and filmed in Turkey. It stars Kinda Alloush, Samer Al-Masry, Hala Zein, Nizar Al-Ani, and Darina Al-Jundi, and was filmed by the famous director of photography, Helen Louvare.

The film “Exodus” toured in several prestigious international festivals, including the London Film Festival in Europe and the Mostra de Valencia Film Festival in Spain. In South America, the film participated in the Sao Paulo International Film Festival, and in Asia “Exodus” participated in the Tokyo International Film Festivals in Japan and the Busan International Film Festivals. In South Korea, and the International Film Festival in India.

In its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, Exodus won the Audience Award in the Orizzonti Extra Competition, becoming the first Arab film to receive it, and the Lanterna Magica Award, which is awarded by the Cinicerkule National Socio-Cultural Association for Youth. Thus, director Soudad Kaadan has three awards from the Venice Film Festival, as it won Her previous film, The Day I Lost My Shadow, won the Lion of the Future Award in 2018, and the film also won the Amnesty International Award at the Medfilm Film Festival.
