“The essence of the Samaritan organization is to help people. And right now in hospitals, there is a crisis situation where every workforce can help so much!

Volunteering is not a profession, but a call to the heart, and it is amazing that there are people who are fearless and without thinking about themselves, ready to go to the rescue. Most of them are young people who are studying medicine, but there are also people with different experiences who want to help, ”said Laura Bulmane, volunteer coordinator of the Latvian Samaritan Association.

Pauls Stradiņš University Clinical Hospital is the second largest inpatient hospital for Covid-19 patients in Riga. “Before the pandemic, our hospital visitors and guests often asked the question – what is this white space for? Now, these rooms, which were originally intended for disasters, have now fully justified themselves. We have filled them with beds and the necessary equipment so that in a situation where the patients in the existing ward can no longer be admitted, we have the opportunity to provide assistance to patients. However, that is only part of the work we need to do.

The second, our most difficult problem to solve is labor, because there is a lot to do!

We are glad that, if necessary, we are cooperating with a reliable and experienced partner, whose assistance and human resources will be extremely important in overcoming this crisis, ”said Ilze Kreicberga, a member of the hospital’s board.

Volunteers will be provided with all necessary personal protective equipment to ensure full volunteer protection against Covid-19. Throughout the volunteer’s work, the volunteer has a Covid-19 or Covid-19 vaccination certificate.
