Coming from a family of four children of which she is the only daughter and the youngest, the young Perpignan native, Samara Fernandez claims her Spanish gypsy origins. Her performance in the blind audition on the show The Voice Kids, according to her mother Amparo, “upset the audience.” To be discovered this Saturday, August 24 on TF1.
It was at the age of 7 that Samara Fernandez, now 12, had the revelation of her already powerful voice by performing Homeless, the hit by Marina Kaye. “As far back as I can remember, I have always sung: in my room, after family meals, with my friends. I have it in me, and it’s natural,” confides, with restraint, the young woman from Perpignan who lives at the Moulin à Vent surrounded by the affection of her mother, Amparo, and her three older brothers Antoine, José and Juan. This is how, at the age of 9, her mother decided, with her agreement, to find her a singing teacher. It was Lisa, from the Palma Vocal singing school in Soler.Apart from Samara, no one in our family, even going back a long way, has her voice. She has this gift and impresses us every time she sings,” recognizes Amparo.
Four castings, and at the end a blind audition
It must be admitted that her younger sister wants it. A die-hard fan of The Voice Kids, pushed by her vocal coach who never stops telling her “that she has every chance”, Samara recorded her first soundtracks, “at microphone that mom bought me“, in her girly room, among her dolls and stuffed animals. Four castings, with Amparo her mother as chaperone, will follow one another at the show’s Parisian studio. The dream finally becomes reality for the young Perpignan native who has been renting since “the flair” of Lisa who was one of the first “to believe in me”.
So here she is, selected as a talent for The Voice Kids 2024. In October 2023, she steps onto the stage for her first blind audition, in the spotlight, accompanied by an orchestra and under the eyes of the audience, including those, enamored, of Amparo. This Saturday, August 24 on TF1, the Catalans will discover her performance. Samara performs the song Eaea by Paloma Bianca, who represented Spain at Eurovision 2023. In front of her, the four red chairs of the judges Claudio Capéo, Lara Fabian, Patrick Fiori and Slimane, so many stars of French song that must be touched. The young girl could talk about it for hours, her eyes shining. “I love them all! They are giants of French song. They each have such an extraordinary voice,” she shudders. His only regret perhaps? “That Kendji, my favorite, is not also part of the jury of The Voice Kids”.
