On July 15, the international music and art festival “Slavic Bazaar” starts in Vitebsk, Belarus. At its center is usually a competition of young performers, in which Latvian representatives also regularly participate, but this year on the festival’s website there are several Latvian representatives who do not participate there at all.

The Belarusian festival “Slavic Bazaar” is being organized especially big this year – the competition is celebrating its 30th anniversary. However, a confusing situation arises when you visit the “Participants” section of the competition website, where you can see a few hundred participants without specifying the year of their participation.
Thus, for example, a visitor of the website can understand that in the “Slavic Bazaar 2021” Latvia is represented by both singer Samanta Tina and Liene Greifane, but they will not start the competition this year.
Samanta Tīna, as a young performer, picked up her laurels in the 2012 competition, and the artist is surprised that her face is still on the list of participants.

In a conversation with the portal “Delfi”, Samanta Tīna explains: “I have neither planned nor addressed to participate in this competition. Yes, they are interesting there. In my opinion, Liene Greifāne has never participated. Emīls Balceris, Ieva Sutugova, Kristīne should have been there as well. Zaharova, Atis Ieviņš, “Samanta remembers the representatives of Latvia, who were previously participants in this festival.
“There are participants from other years. I recognized many because I was there on the jury,” she adds. The singer evaluated other young artists in 2019. Liene Greifāne has also been a member of the jury in previous years.
The portal Skaties.lv reports that this year the singer Jūlija Maijere has left Latvia for Vitebsk. Her face can also be found in the list of participants.
The organizers of the festival have not yet answered the question of “Delfi”, according to which principle the section of the participants of the competition is created on the website of the “Slavic Bazaar”.
