Samantha Kerr Returns from Injury, Named as Substitute in Australia’s Women’s World Cup Match Against Denmark

Samantha Kerr was included in the substitutes’ list for the Round of 16 match between Australia and Denmark at the Women’s World Cup on Monday.

The player has recovered from the calf injury that kept her out of the opening two matches in the group stage, but coach Tony Gustafsson chose not to play her from the start in the match at Australia Stadium.

Kerr entered the World Cup as one of the favorites to top the goalscoring list, having helped Chelsea to a Women’s Premier League and FA Cup double.

The player topped Australia’s publicity in preparation for the tournament, which she is co-hosting with New Zealand, but has been ruled out since injuring her left calf on the eve of her country’s first match against Ireland on July 20.

Emily van Egmond and Mary Fowler started in attack for Australia.
