In the N-week LTV series “How to win at Eurovision? Samantas Tīna ceļš to Rotterdam ”have inherited the intrigue of what this year’s Latvian Eurovision song will be like, on Friday night the members of the Eurovision team finally allowed the curtain to fall. What are your first impressions?
The Eurovision song “The Moon Is Rising” premiered on LTV on the evening of March 12, and hardly anyone was so excited about it that they couldn’t fall asleep for long. Samanta has fulfilled the first task: it has long been clear (true, not for everyone…) that the Eurovision song must be such that with the first few seconds and the first bars to make the thoughtful viewer go halfway to the kitchen to stop and listen to what will happen next – “The Moon Is Rising” with Samantha’s powerful vocals at the beginning of the song is like this. The second task – the song should be such that when you wake up the next morning, it will sound in your ears. Skan? No.
The third task – the message of the song should be easy to read, also in Samant’s clip and with the help of Aminatas as a lyricist. “This song is about strong and amazing women – for all of us!” tells Samantha Tina. “I want us not to hide and not be afraid of our uniqueness and difference, so the song invites every woman to crown or accept herself with her own hands and be a determinant of her life, to love herself and believe in herself, because then others will love us too! I believe that it also changes the attitude of the people around us, but it is not enough – so the most important message in my song is: “If you want to say something to me, tell me in your eyes! We accept and love ourselves, we are proud of what God has given us and what created us, but we see every difference as wealth. ” I am for equality! ” tells Samantha.
Here, and in this “I am for equality”, the fourth task is coded – how to please Europe or, in the words of the ATV title, “how to win in Eurovision”. And Samanta has also tried to fulfill this fourth task – aggressive feminism and glorification of transgender people is currently a fashion thing in Europe, another issue that Latvia thinks about it. The infamous example of Elīna Didrihsone shows that it is better not to boil our mouths on this issue – we have already come this far -, but inadvertently the question arises, who has given Samanta a mandate to apply for Latvia with such a message ?! She herself can fulfill what she wants and fulfill as she wants, but as Latvia’s representative at Eurovision, she should still represent the country, not just herself, her ally Kasheris and the rest of this wing. It is to be hoped that the Eurovision Song Contest will indeed take place in its usual format, namely a live broadcast from Rotterdam, and that Samantha will be able to take the stage to show off its voice and the power of The Moon Is Rising. I don’t even want to think about the possibility that due to the dramatic exacerbation of Covid-19, Eurovision songs may have to be judged by videos, and Latvia would be judged by this motley crowd filmed in an abandoned hangar with Mr. Caraine and two girls kissing trumpet…
A little about the origin of the song. “The Moon Is Rising” continues last year’s roadmap to the theme of the strong woman marked by the Eurovision song “Still Breathing”. Its authors are Samantha Tina, Aminata and 20-year-old producer SKVR (Oscar Wuhan). The singer chose this single from 11 songs written especially for her. They took place in the autumn in a two-day music writing camp, which was organized in cooperation with the Latvian Music Development Association / Latvian Music Export. Samanta chose local musicians and producers to work with, creating five teams of musicians who meet the specifics of the desired song. After listening to all the songs, the song written on the first day, produced by SKVR, has fallen into Samanta’s heart. By the way, when accepting participation in the camp, this guy, whom only a few of the wider audience knows, claimed that he would be the one who would write Samanta’s Eurovision song. Miraculously, that is what happened.
The video and director of the song’s video is Samanta Tīna in collaboration with Aiga Baikov (“AiProduction”). The cameraman is Ritvars Bluka, for whom the work on creating this clip was a special professional challenge, because the video was filmed with a “Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G” phone. In fact, the idea of choosing a forgotten corner of all the gods as a filming location didn’t matter – the view still took hold in this pile of rubble, and against it, the main characters of the clip, dressed in “humpals” (probably), seemed secondary. With the exception of Samanth’s panties, of course … Praise to the choreographers – the stage movements were really developed to the nuances worthy of circus training, only in Rotterdam such a group will not be able to climb on stage – what then?
It is said that Samantas’ time was 2013, when she started in the selection with the song “I Need A Hero”, the viewer would prefer 2019 and the song “Cutting The Wire”, of course, above all was the undoubted 2020 International Eurovision Top 5 song “Still Breathing”, but this year the view of our prospects is quite dual. On the one hand, it is doubtful whether Samantha will fail, because the song is strong and she herself is charismatic; on the other hand, it is doubtful whether victory would be a joy for many here. The Moon Is Rising is hardly proud, the song is aimed at a specific audience, without giving others a chance to fall in love.
