‘Never waste a good crisis‘, presenter Sam De Bruyn writes on Instagram. ‘2020 made me think a lot. Fear and insecurity make us want to cling to everything we can. But I am just going to let go very consciously. I have decided to leave Qmusic. That is not a choice against Q, but a choice for myself. ‘
The 34-year-old radio host indicates that he ‘needs some time and rest’. In his own words, he ‘jumps into life’. ‘Because I feel it is necessary to find myself again. I don’t argue. I have no other plans. I do have a husband, a dog, two chickens and a lot of friends. So that will be all right. ‘
‘The door is always open’
Qmusic says in a response to ‘fully understand’ De Bruyn’s decision. “That does not mean that we are unbelievably sorry that we will have to miss Sam’s cheerful radio voice at Q.” Dirk Lodewyckx, general director TV, Streaming and Radio of DPG media, wishes De Bruyn ‘only the best for the future’. “He knows our door is always open.”
Brussels Studio
Sam De Bruyn started his career behind the micro in 2008, as the sidekick of Siska Schoeters at Studio Brussel. He stayed with the channel for seven years and was one of the faces of Music for life. In 2015 De Bruyn started at Qmusic, where he has been responsible for the morning block since 2016. Earlier this year, he switched to the evening rush hour again, but that will also come to an end at the end of this week.
