The story surrounding Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX remains strange. Where the platform’s founder and former CEO was recently arrested for a billion-dollar fraud, he now sat quietly in an American airport lounge. He raised the fuss about it not being just a living room.
Business class
Bankman-Fried was spotted in the American Airlines Greenwich lounge at JFK airport. This is a lounge for people who fly business class and normally have a lot of money to spend. It is especially strange to see Bankman-Fried enjoy this luxury when he has stripped so many people of all their savings.
Incidentally, Bankman-Fried was accompanied by his parents, FBI agents and lawyers. It is therefore not the case that he is currently completely free and he can decide for himself what he will do.
For now, Bankman-Fried is under house arrest with his parents and the house will be guarded. If he leaves his parents’ house, he’ll be taken. Also, the 30-year-old Bankman-Fried can’t spend more than $1,000. He also had to hand over the passport for the infamous $250 million bail.
Strange situation
Not long after the first images, a photo of Bankman-Fried surfaced in which he is talking to a fellow traveler over an orange juice in business class. That makes the whole situation even weirder, of course. Billions have been “stolen” from users of the exchange platform, and the main suspect is happily sitting in business class. You’d say he probably desperately needs money to compensate people, but apparently that’s not the case.
Many people also wondered how Bankman-Fried was still able to afford business class tickets. Though not too long ago he indicated that he still has $100,000 in his name. It’s possible that now he’ll spend it all, because he’ll probably go to jail for life anyway.
