A new home will be built next year for around 340 active footballers and 25 coaches.
One million euros for a new artificial turf pitch
The Ducks are building a new stadium on the former Bulls-Platz, at the Panorama factory in Liefering. In coordination with the city and state of Salzburg, the existing 500-seat grandstand will be renovated this year. “We are initially investing 48,000 euros for this,” the mayor of the city, Harald Preuner, confirmed to SALZBURG24 on Wednesday.
A new artificial grass pitch will be built in spring. “Together with the state, we are investing one million euros to give the Ducks a new home. The club is doing great and has a good future ahead,” Preuner emphasized.
The new stands pay the football ducks
According to the mayor, the Ducks, which are currently spread over three locations (Sportzentrum Mitte, Maxglan and Liefering), should pay for the new grandstand with 1,000 seats, including subsidies. If all goes to plan, everything including the academy, clubhouse and fitness rooms should be ready by the start of the 2024 season. Until then, the men’s league games will continue to take place in Maxglan at Max Aicher Stadium. .
“Give a boost to Salzburg’s football boom”
Ducks chairman Christine Gappmayer had an appointment with Preuner on Wednesday, where the remaining framework conditions were discussed. Only the budget meetings are yet to arrive. “This is great news for us. We want to continue to give football a boost in Salzburg and, above all, offer a home to our young people,” explained Gappmayer.
The city of Salzburg remains the owner
The center remains city-owned, but the Ducks will play Liefering on a 20-year contract until 2043. In addition to their own training sessions, the association is also involved in Salzburg’s schools. “We teach flag football (without physical contact, ed) in twelve schools and a total of 24 classes for around 1,800 students. This not only promotes movement, but is also a good English course. We are already in contact with some high schools and college in the US so that we have enough qualified coaches available for this task, ”said Gappmayer, who also wants to invite schools to the new football center in the future.
Winning the Silver Bowl title last year shows just how advanced the development of the united club has come. Additionally, three Salzburg players have joined the national team under coach Nick Johansen and can secure a place in the European Championship semi-finals against Hungary on Sunday.
