Intensity is the word that best sums up the match between Salzburg and Bayern. Except for the last 14 minutes. Only the label roller fits with that.
Salzburg started better than Bayern and scored 1-0 after 4 minutes. In the center Bayern kept everything closed, but on the flank Berisha managed to shoot a deviated ball into the far corner. Bayern needed a penalty to equalize. A breeze for Lewandowski: 1-1.
As in a tennis match, the ball then flew back and forth across the field. There were opportunities for both teams, but it was Bayern that struck at the perfect time. Just before half-time, Müller pushed hard and Kristensen headed into his own goal under pressure from Tolisso.
The same (amusing) game image after half-time, although Salzburg showed itself a little more eager again. The reward followed when substitute Okugawa was on the field for less than a minute. Bayern’s defense was centrally embarrassed and it was deservedly 2-2.
But Bayern underlined with four bold stripes that the late goal at the end of the first half was no coincidence. It scored four times in the closing stages of the second half. Boateng with a perfect header. Sané with a lovely staircase in the top left corner. Lewandowski after a won header duel between two defenders and Hernandez with a deviated shot.
The battle for places two and three remains exciting in group A.
