Sport reigns supreme in Salzburg’s old town for the third day in a row. After the Cyclodome cycling spectacle, where road bike and mountain bike competitions took place, the annual Day of Sport follows.
Salzburg’s famous square, the Residenzplatz, is being transformed into a mega playground by around 25 local clubs, associations and institutions.
Youngsters have fun in Salzburg’s old town
There are 35 activities available for young and old to let off steam and learn new things. From boxing to climbing, mountain biking, table tennis and football, almost every sport is offered.
“A day like this is extremely important. We want to make sport as accessible as possible to people. And when I see how much joy everyone has in taking part, I’m really happy. We want to get in touch with the clubs and exchange ideas with them,” said Salzburg’s Sports Minister Martin Zauner (FPÖ) on Saturday afternoon to SALZBURG24.
The many Salzburg clubs, associations and their members lovingly look after the young talent. Each club is allowed to present a show unit on stage, thus providing an insight into the day-to-day processes.
Premieres at Sports Day
On Sports Day, the new ski simulator, trampoline jumping and skateboarding will be celebrating their premiere. “Our sport is growing continuously and has only recently become an Olympic sport. In order to be able to practice skateboarding at a certain level, we absolutely need a large hall,” explains a club representative on the large stage at Residenzplatz.
Stars like Philipp Schörghofer, Max Franz, Philipp Pertl, Julian Eberharter, Anna Andexer, Lea Rothschopf and many more take time for the offspring and also fulfill one or two photo requests.
One of the highlights will be the demonstration by the Cobra special operations unit. From 12 noon to 6 p.m., children, teenagers and adults can try out new sports.
