Salvadoreños obtained an important victory against Santa Tecla 89-63 that allows them to start the Apertura 2024 Copa Tigo Sports Tournament of the Major Basketball League (LMB) on the right foot.
The stage was the home of Salvadoreños, the Inclusive Sports City (CDI), where the locals exerted their dominance from the first period with a large score of 31-15.
The Tecleños’ response came in the second quarter with the experience of players like the American Andravious Smith, who added eight points. With this formula, the visitors managed to win 17-20, but the overall advantage was maintained by the quintet from the capital 48-35.
The strength of the debuting team was reflected in the third period through the impeccable work of Marco Menjivar, who scored two triples, and Rodolfo Espinal with four double shots helped Salvadoreños take the fourth 27-10, leaving the aggregate with a clear advantage for the locals 75-45.
Those from Santa Tecla were not intimidated by the attack of the home team and in the actions of the last period, Smith refined his aim and, very focused, managed to score 13 points that added up to the key score that ended 14-18, but it was not enough overall 89-63.
Salvadorans delighted their audience thanks to their top scorers, Emmanuel Rodríguez scored 20, Rodolfo Espinal scored 14 and Marco Menjívar scored 13 points.
For Santa Tecla, the top scorers were Andravious Smith with 36 points, Cristian Lora contributed 9 and Anthony López 8 points.
