Salvadoran tennis player Marcelo Arévalo positively faces quarantine in Australia

Salvadoran tennis player Marcelo Arévalo arrived last Friday in Melbourne, Australia, and since then he has served a 14-day quarantine after three positive cases of COVID-19 were detected on the flight that transferred him to Australian territory.

“They gave us bad news, that on the flight we were coming on there were two positive cases of COVID-19, so they consider us all close contacts, and they have confined us for 14 days without being able to leave the room,” said Arévalo, who has already undergone and tested negative in six of the 14 PCR tests that he will undergo during quarantine.

Despite the situation, Marcelo has managed to stay active during the quarantine, and on social networks he has published some of the routines he performs with the racket and the ball, as well as physical work routines.

“During this time we will not leave the room, we will not be able to train, so here we are inventing exercises to stay active. Despite everything, I am positive, as far as possible, since there is no other way, you have to be active and positive. When I get out of here I hope to be able to adjust to the conditions as quickly as possible and to be able to do the best possible role, ”said the athlete, who is financially supported by the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (INDES).

Once the quarantine is over, Marcelo is scheduled to compete in the Great Ocean Road Open ATP 250, to be held in Melbourne, from January 31 to February 6, and in the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, which is scheduled from February 8 to 21. In both competitions, the Salvadoran will pair with the Dutch Matwé Middelkoop, with whom he played the ATP Masters 1000 Paris and the ATP 250 Sofía Open last year.
