The Salvadoran karate fighter Helen Galán became the queen of the XXIX Central American Karate Championship (CCONDEKA 2024), which took place in the Cuna del Mágico, at the Jorge “El Mágico” González national stadium, by being crowned with four gold medals and a bronze, which made her not only the most outstanding athlete in the blue and white, but also in the regional championship.
“I feel satisfied with what I have achieved. On the first day of competition I added a gold and a bronze, as a senior I managed to take first place in each presentation I did. I have given my one hundred percent this year, I have started very well in katas, thanks to the effort made in previous years,” she mentioned.
In the senior event, the karate fighter won gold medals in individual kata, team kata and individual kumite in the -50kg category; In the under-21 she won a gold and in individual kata and a bronze in individual kumite in the -50 kg category.
Galan is one of the best fists in the Salvadoran Karate Federation. At a generational level, the art was transmitted to him by former karatekas Carlos Galán, who obtained outstanding results in kumite, and Georgina Cruz de Galán, who knew how to handle the kata.
The athlete assured that her entire career she worked to have a start to the year as she has had in 2024, with positive results and with the possibility of showing that she is a complete athlete, having the opportunity to win medals in both kata and kumite. .
Regarding the gold medal in senior kumite, the athlete said she felt comfortable knowing that first place would always be for El Salvador and assured that enjoying a final against Sofía Orantes motivated her to be a good teammate and rival.
“We have been facing Sofia since we started in the sport and since we fought in the same category. “We always give a good fight, I am happy for his medal,” she said.
Regarding the confrontation between Sofía and Gabriela Izaguirre, she mentioned that: “they faced each other in the semifinals and ended in a 0-0 draw and according to the rules of the fight, the athlete who pressures or has the intention of winning is the one who advances and in this case it was Sofía,” something that according to the athlete, in the category they achieved first, second and third place.
Looking ahead to the CCONDEKA, Galán participated in the Samurai Cup, in Houston, United States, a competition where he won bronze in kata and silver in kumite, both senior categories, and in the El Salvador Cup he won a gold in senior individual kata and a gold in kumite -50 kg.
