Salud reminds us of the importance of expressing the desire to donate organs and tissues

Wednesday November 29, 2023. After the visit of the delegation of Spanish specialists from the National Transplant Organization, the Ministry of Health reminds us of the importance of donating organs and tissues.

Organ donation saves lives and improves the quality of life of many people who suffer from terminal or chronic illnesses. By donating organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver or pancreas, you provide the opportunity to patients who might otherwise die or experience serious limitations in their health. One organ donor can save up to eight lives and one tissue donor can save and heal up to 75 lives.

Given this, the Minister of Health emphasized the great benefit that the country has with the visit of Spanish specialists with whom knowledge can be exchanged, and good practices for the donation and transplant processes in the country can be validated.

“The presence of Spanish experts in liver, kidney and cornea transplantation represents an invaluable opportunity for our country. Your visit will not only enrich our medical knowledge, but also strengthens the guiding lines of the technical executive secretariat of donation and transplantation of the ministry of health, all with the aim of generating an exchange in the latest advanced techniques and practices in these specialized fields. This collaboration will strengthen the capacity of our healthcare professionals, significantly improving the quality of care and outcomes for patients requiring transplants. In addition, the cultural and scientific exchange will promote the construction of solid ties between the medical communities of both countries, paving the way for future collaborations and advances in the field of health,” said Dr. Munive, Minister of Health.

The Health Minister also emphasizes the importance of organ donation and even more so the importance of informing your family and loved ones about your desire to be an organ donor.

During this Wednesday, the Spanish delegation specializing in liver transplantation will be visiting the Calderón Guardia Hospital, Mexico Hospital and Eye Bank and the ophthalmology clinic.
