The modernization works at the Salto Airport were delayed due to several inconveniences and what was scheduled for before the end of the year will now happen on February 23, the date established for its inauguration. It should be noted that the Salto air terminal is suitable so that it can operate with large aircraft and the passenger terminal can be of first level. The tasks carried out there are part of a broad modernization plan that includes six other terminals throughout the country, managed by the Aeropuertos Uruguay consortium. The Carmelo and Rivera airports have already been presented and Salto is the next one that will be inaugurated so that it becomes part of the National Airport Network.
INFRASTRUCTURE
By 2024, the works will also be completed in the Paysandú, Melo and Durazno terminals. Once the work is completed, all aerodromes will be able to receive regional flights such as Carrasco and Punta del Este, which also make up an airport network managed by the Aeropuertos Uruguay consortium. The interventions in Salto aimed to modernize the aeronautical infrastructure, runways, movement and maneuver areas, new terminal and fire brigade, adequate to the international standards dictated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), of the United Nations.
ADEQUACY
The Salto Airport has a large area, a very wide perimeter and the security strip is in relatively good condition, although it will change substantially once it is modified. He added that the beacon is out of service so a new LED one will be installed. The same type of lighting will be used on the platform and the terminal. The main runway is 1,600 meters long and a secondary runway is 750 meters long, and both are being intervened. Work was carried out on the roads and perimeter fencing and remodeling of the new passenger terminal.
