“Saltburn” – The Latest Must-See Scandal Film with Unforgettable Scenes and Hollywood Stars

The word “scandal film” is one from earlier cinematic times. Because, you ask yourself, what scandalous thing should be shown these days that hasn’t already been seen on the Internet?

Nevertheless, there is one film that is being referred to everywhere as a “scandal film”. A hurricane-like hype has even arisen on social media: “Saltburn” (on Amazon Prime) is clearly the film of the hour.

But what does “Saltburn” show that makes it a “scandal film”?

It’s not just the story: The shy Oliver (Barry Keoghan, 31) spends the summer on the feudal estate of his smart fellow student Felix (Jacob Elordi, 26). There he cleverly gradually wins over the entire over-the-top family for himself.

But even before it was broadcast, several scenes were a topic of conversation:

▶︎ Oliver has oral sex with Felix’s sister while she’s on her period.

▶︎ Oliver sips the bath water from the tub drain that Felix had masturbated in shortly before.

▶︎ Oliver has sex on a freshly dug grave.

“Sure, it’s disgusting,” says lead actor Keoghan. And yet millions couldn’t wait until the film could finally be seen.

The result: A mixture of black comedy, thriller, drama and social satire. Entertaining, exciting, humorous: But scandalous?

People used to get outraged pretty quickly

In 1951, Hildegard Knef’s bare breasts (shown only bashfully) in “The Sinner” were enough to enrage moral guardians.

In the 70s, one scandalous film followed the next – and most of the criticized works were real film art. Horror and sex in particular outraged many people, but attracted even more people to the cinemas.

I can clearly remember how people flocked to “The Exorcist” back then. It was previously reported that cinema-goers in the USA were vomiting in disgust.

Prosecutors confiscated the erotic drama “In the Realm of the Senses” at the 1976 Berlinale immediately after its screening – it was too pornographic. But these sexual practices were exactly what moviegoers wanted to see when the film was released two years later.

Those who first watched “The Big Eat” (1974) and then reserved a table in the restaurant were brave. In the film, four friends eat and fuck each other to death. The sound of the film alone spoiled some people’s appetites.

More scandal examples?

We remember Romy Schneider, who in “Trio Infernal” (1974) dragged corpses dissolved in hydrochloric acid in buckets into the garden. Of Marlon Brando’s infamous butter scene in The Last Tango of Paris (1972), which later led to real rape allegations. And of course “The 120 Days of Sodom” (1975), banned several times, probably the most controversial work in film history: young people are tortured to death here.

But at some point nothing really seemed to shock you anymore.

Sharon Stone without panties

Sharon Stone’s lack of panties in the scandalous thriller “Basic Instinct” (1992) was still a topic of conversation, but no one was really outraged by it anymore.

And today? “Saltburn” is a bold, evil, provocative reckoning with the world of the rich. And the director knows her way around this world.

Emerald Fennell (38) is the daughter of a British jeweler (nicknamed “King of Bling”) and is a well-known actress (she plays the young Camilla in the TV series “The Crown”). She won a screenplay Oscar for her first film as director, “Promising Young Woman.”

Hollywood star Margot Robbie (“Barbie”) co-produced her second film. Not everyone will like the result, but no one will be left indifferent, and most people are enthusiastic about this mix of genres with its unforgettable scenes.

But are they really scandalous? Or simply spectacular? The bathtub number inspired fans to create “Jacob Elordi’s Bath Water Cocktail” with a wink. The recipe is circulating on the internet: mix 75 ml lychee martini, 45 ml gin, 75 ml coconut milk and ice. Dip the rim in coconut milk before pouring to create milky streaks on the glass.

According to pop singer Sophie Ellis Bextor (44), her super hit “Murder on the Dancefloor” from 2001 can be heard in the naked final scene. Because now, 23 years later, it has made it back into the British top ten.

Scandal film? More of a must-see film with many winners.
