Salmonella in chocolate, here are all the Kinder lots withdrawn: what to do

Ferrero has recalled, voluntarily and as a precaution, some lots of Kinder eggs made in the Ferrero production plant in Arlon, Belgium, and distributed mainly in Northern Europe, but also in Italy. This decision was made following a potential link to a salmonella outbreak, which European food safety authorities are still investigating. There are currently 134 cases registered in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, all countries that receive the batches produced in the Arlon plant. For the moment in our country there are only a few lots of Kinder Schoko-Bons packs affected by the recall. In any case, Amazon Italia has started the reimbursement for other Kinder products as well.

Ferrero’s decision

As stated on the official website of the company, Ferrero has decided to prepare a precautionary recall of specific production batches of Kinder Schoko-Bons also in our country, in agreement with the national health authorities, with a preferential consumption date between May 28, 2022 and August 19, 2022, coming from the same Belgian plant. However, the company underlined that all the other Ferrero products, including the Kinder products dedicated to Easter and all the characterizations of the Easter celebration, are not affected by the recall. Even the Kinder GranSorpresa Easter eggs on the Italian market, in all formats and characterizations, are not affected by the recall, because they are produced in Italy in the Alba factory, in the province of Cuneo. Ferrero then wanted to reassure its consumers that in the last 6 months in Italy it had not received any contacts from buyers or complaints due to indisposition due to the consumption of Kinder products.

What to do

Furthermore, as assured by the manufacturer, no product analyzed on the markets affected by the recall was found to be contaminated with salmonella. Finally, anyone who has purchased and not yet consumed the Kinder Schoko-Bons product, on the dates of preferential consumption disclosed, is invited not to consume it, to keep it and to contact the customer service on the toll-free number 800 90 96 90, leaving their data to be able to ask to verify the lot he bought. The Aarlon plant will only reopen after being certified by the authorities.
