Last week, a tanker truck carrying more than a hundred thousand live king salmon overturned in a stream bed in the US state of Oregon, causing thousands of fish to accidentally enter the water.
King salmon that had grown in the hatchery for two years were being taken to the Imnaha River, where they were to be released. The purpose was to strengthen the stock of a fish species classified as endangered.
Oregon State Natural Resources officials said Tuesday that the driver lost control on a tight curve, causing the tanker truck to roll down a rocky embankment.
The driver received minor injuries. In addition, 77,000 king salmon ended up in Lookingclas Creek. About a quarter of the salmon in the cargo died.
The BBC reported about it.
