Grew up on Frøya at the far end of Trøndelag. His father Gustav Witzøe was a car mechanic and bought a bankrupt estate in the salmon industry when the industry struggled in the early 90s.
The family gathered the investments in the company Kverva, and most of it was transferred to Gustav jr. in 2006. Later he has also invested in restaurant and bar premises on Solsiden in Trondheim and in technology companies.
The market values through Salmar are valued at more than NOK 28.6 billion.

Gustav M. Witzøe owns almost all the shares in Kvarv as, but his father Gustav Witzøe has control through owning most of the a-shares. Kvarv as is, among other things, the largest and controlling owner in the salmon company Salmar.
