Salman Rushdie lost sight in one of his eyes … and his hand was paralyzed

British writer Salman Rushdie, who was attacked in August in the United States, lost his sight in one eye and paralyzed a hand, as well as other injuries, according to his agent in a note to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

And Andre Wiley said in an interview with “El Pais” and posted at the end of the week that Rushdie “lost sight in one of his eyes … and suffered three serious neck injuries. He suffers from paralysis in one. of his hands, because the nerves in his arm were severed, chest and torso.

His agent explained: “His wounds were very deep (..) The attack was brutal”.

On August 12, Rushdie was preparing to attend a symposium in upstate New York (northeastern United States) when someone stormed the podium and stabbed him multiple times, mostly in the neck and abdomen.

As a result, Rushdie was transferred by helicopter to the hospital, where he was briefly connected to a respirator before his condition improved.

The main suspect in the attack on the author of “The Satanic Verses” was immediately arrested.

And the arrested American of Lebanese origin, Hadi Matar, is 24 and appealed to the Mayville, New York, court to acquit him in a trial that held its first session in mid-August.

The attack on Rushdie shocked the West, while extremists in Muslim countries like Iran and Pakistan praised it.

In 1989, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, issued a fatwa about the novel’s author’s bloodshed.

The organizations had monitored a reward for the killing of Rushdie, who was born in India to a Muslim family from Kashmir, after the fatwa had wasted blood, where he had spent nine years hiding under the protection of the British police.
