Last week an article appeared on FilmTotaal about Léa Seydoux, who completely stripped off for the film Blue is the Warmest Color. You can read more about that here. This time it’s Salma Hayek’s turn.
Hayek has been a famous actress for decades and has appeared in dozens of Hollywood films. However, the start of her career was anything but easy. Hayek was born in Mexico, but her parents sent her to a Catholic school in Louisiana when she was 12.
Begin
She did not stay there long, because she was sent away. She then ended up with her aunt in Texas. This also did not really suit her, so she went back to Mexico. There she discovered that she wanted to become an actress.
Despite the fact that her family strongly disagreed, after a few small roles she left for Hollywood, hoping to become famous. Things didn’t exactly go smoothly at first, but when they got in Desperado appeared, she immediately had the roles up for grabs.
Succes
She played one of her most famous and beloved roles Frida, in which she takes on the role of the world-famous Frida Kahlo. Yet this did not only bring fun things. The actress hated taking off her clothes.
The reason for this? None other than Harvey Weinstein, who was involved in the film, said Hayek would be fired unless she shot a lesbian sex scene that required her to be topless.
Response
This is what Hayek said about the day of shooting this nude scene: “For the first and last time in my career I really had a breakdown. My body started shaking like crazy, I couldn’t breathe properly and I started crying uncontrollably. I couldn’t stop“.
“I had no problem appearing naked next to and with another woman, but the fact that I had to do it in front of Harvey Weinstein was horribleIn 2017, the actress said she had been sexually harassed by Weinstein and even threatened with death.
