Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which cells that resemble the uterine lining (endometrium) occur outside the uterus. This can form cysts or nodules on organs such as the bladder, ureters, intestines or ovaries. The result is unpleasant inflammatory reactions.
Women who suffer from this will soon be able to check whether they have endometriosis via a simple saliva test. The French company that developed the test wants to market the product in Belgium this year.

Faster diagnosis
It is currently quite difficult to detect endometriosis. In the Netherlands this can only be done via an ultrasound, MRI or keyhole surgery. Subsequently, a diagnosis takes a very long time; There is an average of ten years between the first symptoms and the diagnosis.
Ziwig’s test promises to provide a definitive answer much faster, with more than 95 percent certainty. It works simply; At the doctor’s office you put some saliva in a test tube and fourteen days later you will receive results from the lab with the results. Unfortunately, there is no cure for endometriosis. The faster diagnosis only helps treat it, not prevent or remedy it.
The saliva test is not yet available in the Netherlands. Ziwig is a French company that wants to deliver in Belgium this year. The saliva test (under the name Endotest) is already for sale in Luxembourg, Germany, the United Kingdom and a dozen other European countries.
