Mexico City. The Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) specified that although the closure seals were removed from the golf course in the Tangolunda National Park (which was concessioned to businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego), in compliance with the resolution of the Judicial Branch of the Federation , “the suspension of golf activities is maintained.”
Through a press release, Semarnat stressed that the removal of the closure seals by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) was “solely for the purpose of keeping alive the ecosystem that is currently found in the property as established by the judicial authority.”
Likewise, this agency specifies that said suspension measure, “does not contravene the provisions of the Decree by which Tangolunda Protected Natural Area is declared, with the character of National Park, the surface of 110 thousand hectares, located in the municipality of Santa María Huatulco in the state of Oaxaca” and which was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on February 26 of this year, so the suspension of golf activities is maintained.
The court order, Semarnat stressed, establishes that actions cannot be carried out that oppose or exceed various measures, whether provisional or definitive, including among them the activity of golf. Likewise, it recognizes that the authorities responsible in the case continue with the administrative procedure.
