Salies-du-Salat. The Pyrenees fighting club champion in Japan

the essential More than 10,000 km covered and Salisian David Trupiano triumphantly brings back the champion’s cup from the international Japan Shidokan to Comminges.

David Trupiano is the creator and coach of the Pyrénées fighting club in Montsaunes (Karate and MMA school since 2016). A club which continues to grow and display good results in competition and numerous national titles for it and some of its students; also a club organizing the Fight and Rock (Shidokan Karate /MMA Gala) in Salies-du-Salat last June, an evening which left its mark.

And above all a school of life for all its members. This October, coach David Prupiano left for Japan with one of his students, friend and sponsor Xavier Denat (owner of Vin’art in Salies-du-Salat). He will join the Nice team and the exceptional French delegation, of which his little brother Gérard Trupiano is a part. The two brothers were to participate in the 44th Japan International Shidokan Karate Championship; and represent France and for David le Comminges. The highest level and a dream for every karateka fighter.

Engaged in expert open weight (without weight category) and in triathlon (1 round under the rules of karate, 1 round under the rules of kick boxing and 1 round under the rules of MMA), David will have a lot to do. Before departure, strenuous preparation began this summer.

Unfortunately, injury after injury, doubt sets in. “A week before leaving, I didn’t know if I could fight,” he says. Once there, he puts himself in his bubble and manages to regain confidence. The atmosphere in Japan and the advice of his coach Jessy Santini help his mind a lot.

“I’ve been training for years, I can’t give up… I’m going to fight with my heart and give it my all.” On October 13 at the Yokohama Budokan in Tokyo, David won the championship and in style. A semi-final contested against a tough Korean weighing 100 kg won by unanimous decision and a final which will end with a knockout in the second round on a counter hook to the jaw against a Belgian almost 20 cm taller… David’s pet peeve from the height of his 1.72 m!, and this in front of the eyes of the national manager José Galluccio and the founder of shidokan karate Master Yoshiji Soeno.

Victory ! David is Champion of the International Japan Shidokan in the most difficult category: “I realized my dream and at 43 I finished at the highest level.” But is it over? Nothing is less certain; David may still have one or two surprises in store for us.
