The record number of homologations of more than 40 new models of 100% electric vehicles so far this year, together with attractive promotions that reach more than 30% off the list price, and competitive prices from $12,290,000 with bonuses included, continue to steadily drive the registration of vehicles powered by this technology, according to the National Automotive Association of Chile, ANAC.
With users becoming more concerned about the environment, and increasingly opting for more efficient models, electric models are increasingly in the automotive market and in the sights of users. Added to this is the fact that there is an increasingly better offer of vehicles with ever greater autonomy, reducing charging times and, in turn, more electric charging stations available.
All of the above factors have generated a sustained increase in the sale of zero and low emission vehicles in the country, which reached a growth of 78.6% during July with 1,288 units, according to the ANAC report. Thus, the cumulative sales of these vehicles have increased by 101.7% during 2004 with 8,556 units.
If we analyse the results by vehicle type, plug-in hybrids (PHEV) increased by 147.6% with 104 registrations in July. While 100% electric models (BEV) registered 256 0-kilometre units sold with an increase of 591.9% in that respective month.
Conventional hybrid vehicles were not far behind with an increase of 68.9% and 549 units sold in the previous month, while microhybrids (MHEV) did the same with an increase of 21.6% and 366 vehicles.
While the new categories of extended-range electric vehicles (EREV) have so far totaled 106 units registered in our country so far in 2024.
In the segment analysis, the results also continue with positive figures. In July, SUVs grew by 71.7%, commercial vehicles increased by 118.2%, passenger vehicles increased by 313.3% and only pick-up trucks decreased by -46.3%. (Source: ANAC/ Presslatam)
GLOSSARY OF VEHICLE TYPES
-HEV (Conventional or self-charging Hybrid Vehicle): Vehicle that combines two power sources, with a main combustion engine and a battery and electric motor that serve as support in various situations.
-BEV (Beam Electric Vehicle): Vehicles that only run on batteries and are recharged by connecting them to the electrical grid.
-PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle): a vehicle that combines a combustion engine with an electric motor and higher-capacity batteries, which are recharged by plugging the vehicle into the electrical grid.
-MHEV (Micro Hybrid Vehicle): Micro hybrid or mild hybrid vehicle that combines the combustion engine with a small electric motor, which assists driving at specific times and also serves as a starter motor.
-EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle): Vehicle powered exclusively by one or more electric motors, and which has an internal combustion engine to provide electrical energy to the storage system or battery.
-Hydrogen or FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle): Vehicle that uses hydrogen as the main source of energy to move the vehicle. These are electric vehicles, light or medium, with a fuel cell and an electric machine that operates as converters of the propulsion energy.
