Sales of some luxury carmakers in the Czech Republic are growing, despite coronavirus

The best-selling brand in the premium segment was Mercedes, which recorded six percent sales growth to 5,390 vehicles in three quarters, making it the eighth place in the market. BMW sales fell eight percent to 3,787 cars, Audi reported a decrease of 13 percent to 1,703 cars. The entire market fell by more than 22 percent.

“During the first nine months of 2020, the CLA, GLC and GLE were among the most popular Mercedes-Benz models. With 769 registrations, the GLE SUV became the best-selling model. In the second half of the year, sales of the modernized E-Class, which has long been the best-selling premium car of the upper middle class in the Czech Republic, started in full swing, ”said the Czech representation of the brand.

Sales growth of 57.5 percent to 74 cars was recorded by the Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari, Porsche increased sales by five percent to 285 cars. Bentley fell eight percent to 43 cars, and Lexus has signed 287 sales contracts since the beginning of the year, four percent less than in the same period last year.

“In general, the impact of coronavirus on luxury and premium brands was lower than on the mainstream market, which was also reflected in Lexus. After the outage caused by the government’s emergency measures in April and May, the brand achieved record sales in the summer in the given months, over 30 cars per month. In September, there were 41 cars sold, ”said Jakub Květoň, Lexus brand manager in the Czech Republic. The brand’s best-selling model on the Czech market is the NX SUV, followed by the larger RX and the UX city crossover.

The Rolls-Royce, Maserati and Lamborghini brands were less successful this year, with sales falling by a quarter to a half year-on-year.

Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic fell by 22.4 percent year on year to 148,319 vehicles in the three quarters. In September, the market grew by seven percent. The slight year-on-year increase in the last month for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles does not change the negative situation, as it reflects last year’s unusually large decline in September, caused by the introduction of a new emissions regulation, previously stated by the Association of Car Importers.
