Sales of Škoda Auto increased by a third to 260 billion

Last year, the results were affected by a pandemic, which led to the closure of production plants for several weeks. This year, the situation is complicated by the lack of chips, due to which the carmaker has to cancel shifts. He stopped production almost completely for two weeks, and the cancellation of shifts will continue even after plant-wide holidays.

“We look back on a great first half. Despite the shortage of semiconductors and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, we have even managed to surpass the results of 2019 before the pandemic, “said Chairman of the Board Thomas Schäfer.

The carmaker saw a strong increase in car deliveries in the first half of the year in Russia (by 54.3 percent), India (by 31.2 percent), Eastern Europe (by 35 percent) and Western Europe (by 30.9 percent).

In Germany, which is the world’s largest market for this carmaker from the Volkswagen Group, it has improved by 19.4 percent compared to last year to 75,900 cars.

In the Czech market, deliveries to customers increased by 11.7 percent to 44,000 vehicles. In China, by contrast, deliveries fell 43.1 percent to 44,000 vehicles in the first half of 2021.

According to the forecast of the chip manufacturer Flex, the automotive industry may face a shortage of semiconductors at least until the middle of 2022. Blacker scenarios speak of a continuation of the shortage until 2023.
