From January to September 2023, sales of new cars in the Russian Federation increased by 49% compared to last year. In total, about 906 thousand cars were sold. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation reports this, citing data from Passport Industrial Consulting JSC.
“In January – September 2023, the market for new vehicles (up to three years old) amounted to 905,926 units, (+49% compared to the same period in 2022 – 607,537 units),” the Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement, TASS reports. It notes that the share of cars sold produced in the country is almost 50%.
According to the data, sales of passenger commercial vehicles increased to 70.7 thousand (by 27%) over the past months of the year. At the same time, people began to buy electric cars 2.1 times more, their sales amounted to 12.2 thousand units, the publication concluded.
It was previously reported that the rise in prices for new passenger cars in Russia will reach 30% in 2023. Vice-president and executive director of the specialized association “Russian Automobile Dealers” (ROAD) Vyacheslav Zhigalov said that the rise in car prices was caused by an increase in the recycling fee and the weakening of the ruble.
