In Russia, 41,851 new passenger cars were sold in February 2023, according to the Association of European Businesses (AEB). This figure is 62.1% less than in the same month last year.

At the same time, last month sales of new cars were higher than January 2022. Then 32,499 cars were sold in the country. However, do not forget that in January there were long holidays, during which buying activity usually decreases.

As for the first two months of 2023, during this time 74,350 new cars were submitted in the country, which is 62.5% less than in 2022. Then the Russians purchased from January to February 198,477 cars.

In February, most of the companies included in the list of the most popular brands from AEB showed a drop in sales. The main reason remains the same – an acute shortage of cars from dealers. The exceptions were AvtoVAZ and Chinese brands — Lada (+5%) Haval (+49%), Geely (+85%), Changan (+123%) and Great Wall (+679%).

Domestic AvtoVAZ remains the leader of the domestic market, having sold 23,437 new cars, which is 5% more than a year earlier. China’s Haval is in second place with 5,324 cars sold (+49%). Geely closes the top three – the company’s sales increased by 85%, to 4,053 units.

The fourth position is occupied by the commercial division of GAZ. For a month they were able to sell 2,625 cars on our market. This figure is 31% less than in February 2022. Closes the top five domestic UAZ, which last month was able to sell 1525 vehicles (-31%).

As for individual models, in February the first place among the bestsellers was traditionally taken by Lada Granta. During the month, the Russians bought 16,257 of these cars. For example, a year ago, 6220 Lada Granta were sold on our market. In second place is Lada Niva, which sold 6,632 copies against 3,854 SUVs a year earlier. The first three are closed by Haval Jolion cars (2445).

In fourth place is the most affordable crossover of the Chinese brand Geely called Coolray. For a month, the Russians bought 2366 of these cars. Chinese crossovers Geely Atlas Pro are on the fifth line. In February, 1269 such machines were sold on the Russian market.
