On the pitch, Messi is not yet the difference player he was at FC Barcelona for many years. However, its popularity has not suffered as a result, quite the opposite. When Mbappe and Neymar switched to PSG in the summer of 2017, the joy was also huge. With the two beaming superstars, the club from the capital managed to sell more than a million jerseys for the first time. Remarkable figures, which, however, should not be compared to those of Lionel Messi.
The left-footed player also cost PSG no transfer fee, while a total of €180m was transferred to AS Monaco for Kylian Mbappe. Neymar even knocked the bottom out when the Brazilian joined the Seine for €222m in the same year. This made him the most expensive soccer player of all time.
