Salerno, traffic jam: the underpass is also closed

Construction sites, long-running structures and more work to come. The recovery post-August a Salerno has been marked by the inconveniences, now almost consolidated, on the road front. In the first days of this week, in fact, the return to daily life has been marked by slowdowns that have affected the entire municipal territory, struggling with construction sites and problems of various kinds that certainly do not make it easier to move around by car or motorbike.

The inconveniences

And, on the horizon, further inconveniences are expected given the announced closure of the underpass Via Santi Martiri Salernitan. Late Tuesday afternoon, the Municipality of Salerno announced the suspension of all traffic through the underpass in the centre starting today and until 30 September to allow for the planned work to cover the West Railway Trench. «There will certainly be some inconvenience but these are important works that will allow us to streamline traffic.», highlighted theCouncillor for Mobility, Rocco Galdi. «At the moment there will be this closure until September 30th: the entire road axis will be moved to via Diaz which will only be passable one way uphill. We trust in everyone’s collaboration».

The provision

All the measures have been detailed in the municipal ordinance: in via Santi Martiri Salernitani, in addition to the ban on transit for motor vehicles, the pedestrian crossing on the west side will be blocked; in via Diaz – in the section between Forty Street e Fox Street where parking will be permitted only on the left side – one-way traffic is established with the direction of travel from sea to mountains, i.e. uphill; vehicles arriving at the intersection with Via Volpe-Via Nizza are required to turn right onto Via Nizza after giving priority to vehicles travelling along Via Volpe; in Ruggero Moscati Avenue (adjacent down ramp Gonzaga Street) a ban on parking and stopping with forced removal is established for all vehicles during the period when the underpass is closed.
