Thursday 31 October, Salerno will receive the body of Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino which will arrive at the Cathedral at 11 am, for a moment of reflection. At 12 noon, the celebration of the memorial mass in his honour, presided over byArchbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, His Excellency Monsignor Andrea Bellandi.
The memory
“Cardinal Martino was a figure of great importance throughout the Churchparticularly in the years in which he carried out the delicate task of Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations (1986-2002), of which we remember numerous interventions he made on disarmament, poverty and the defense of human rights, and in the following years (2002-2009) in which he held the position of President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peacewhich also led to the 2004 publication of the major Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church – Bellandi underlined – The church of Salerno will have the opportunity to pay him its affection and gratitude on Thursday 31st, when at 11 am the dear body will arrive in the Cathedral, where at 12 pm a memorial service will be celebrated S. Mass of suffrage”, added the Archbishop.
The burial
The body will therefore be buried in the Cappella which already houses the remains ofArchbishop Pollioalso much loved, which he was Pastor of the Archdiocese of Salerno from 5 February 1969 to 20 October 1984.
