First he threatens an INPS employee Salerno with a switchblade, hidden between sheets of paper. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, he tries start a fire to the office, setting fire to some files on the desk. The bad adventure for the employee of the INPS provincial directorate of Corso Garibaldi, fortunately, ended with the classic happy ending.
Thanks also to the woman’s quick reflexes, who immediately raised the alarm once she realized the intentions of the violent user. And she, assisted by the supervisory staff and the subsequent intervention of the police, managed to avoid the worst and ensure that the situation returned to normal. The episode of violence, however, brings back to the fore the problem of attacks on public service personnel, which is taking on increasingly disturbing tones, both for those who suffer the consequences of this exasperated climate, and for the public structures themselves, put at risk in their security system.
The security alarm was raised by the FP CGIL, through the national coordinator Giuseppe Lombardo and the provincial secretary, Antonio Capezzuto. «The fact that INPS is the entity responsible for providing almost all income support benefits – highlight the trade unionists – and that, therefore, it is the main hub of Italian welfare, means that it sometimes becomes the scapegoat for hardship, complicit a sadly poisonous and less than objective media climate.”
