Visits by appointment only at Roberto Papi Museum and open only on weekends at Virtual Museum of the Salerno Medical School where, only since March 15th, have English subtitles been introduced to the videos that are shown. Four months after the multiple inauguration and with great pomp, it would seem that the itinerary of relaunch and rediscovery of the Salerno Medical School has suddenly stopped. And, at the same time, there is no longer any news of the candidacy for UNESCO intangible heritage which was precisely the objective that the municipal administration and the Foundation declared they wanted to aim for. Instead, at least so far, exactly the opposite happens because the people of Salerno – let alone the tourists… – know that you need an appointment to visit the redeveloped structure in via Trotula de Ruggiero or that you only need to take advantage of the weekend to access the one in via dei Mercanti.
Managed with difficulty and with technologies that needed to be brought back to the contemporary, at least the Virtual Museum was always open and had an English translation, now it would seem that there has been a regression which, given the conditions, seemed impossible. «The inhabitants, as well as the traders of the historic center, are understanding what we are doing: the people of Salerno, just as they have appropriated the identity of San Matteo, must understand that the legacy and identity of the Medical School belongs to them. And then it is not clear why pizza and coffee have been designated a UNESCO heritage site and the medical school which belongs to the history of man has not», asked the president of the Foundation, Enrico Indelli, hoping for the start of a new course of rediscovery of the Salerno Medical School by citizens and tourists. An operation that would seem complicated if the two museum centers designated for the purpose are open in fits and starts.
