Salerno, ISIS drug seizure for 14 tons

The Guardia di Finanza of Naples has seized in the Port of Salerno a large quantity of drugs, 14 tons of amphetamines, 84 million tablets with the captagon logo, produced in Syria by ISIS to finance terrorism. The value of the goods found in 3 containers has been estimated at over 1 billion euros. The drug had been hidden in industrial paper cylinders and machinery constructed in such a way as to prevent scanners from detecting the contents. Each paper cylinder, about 2 meters high and 140 cm in diameter, made in Germany, contained around 350 kg of tablets.

The captagon – explains a note from the Guardia di Finanza of Naples – is marketed throughout the Middle East and spread both among fighters to inhibit fear and pain and among civilians because it does not make fatigue feel. Initially produced mainly in Lebanon and widespread in Saudi Arabia in the 90s, this amazing substance reappeared in the lairs of terrorists, such as in the attack on the Bataclan in Paris in 2015. For this reason it was nicknamed the drug of Isis or the drug of Jihad. According to the American DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), ISIS makes extensive use of it in all the territories over which it exercises influence and controls its sale. Once the chemical production plants have been started, it is easy for Isis to produce large quantities also for the world market for synthetic drugs. Two weeks ago, still in the port of Salerno, the Gico di Napoli specialists had intercepted a container with a load containing 2,800 kg of hashish and 190 kg of amphetamine with the exact same symbol: captagon.
