Salerno, illegal holiday home discovered in via Mercanti

The Municipal Police continues to carry out tight controls Salerno under the commander’s orders Rosary Battipaglia relating to accommodation facilities in the municipal area. Staff of the Anti-Tax Evasion Unit, headed by Captain Mario Eliahas carried out several checks aimed at verifying any violations and/or abuses in the management of accommodation facilities, in particular B&Bs, holiday homes, guest houses, etc. In addition to the checks carried out following requests from the Tax Sector (Tourist Tax Office and IMU Office) and the SIAE of Salerno, checks were also carried out on facilities that had been reported to the Command by private citizens.

Following a complaint, the staff of the Anti-Tax Evasion Unit intervened, together with staff of the Administrative and Social Police Division of the Salerno Police Headquarters, in via dei Mercanti, where the presence of an “illegal” accommodation facility. Following the inspection, 8 people of French nationality were found in the apartment, who had booked through the website Booking.com. Following the checks carried out at the local Police Headquarters by the State Police personnel who intervened, it was ascertained that the manager of the accommodation facility had not provided the Public Security Authority with the required communications regarding the guests of the facility. For this reason the owner was reported to the Judicial Authority.

Furthermore, the manager was accused of failing to inform customers, through tables or other similar tools, the application of the Tourist Tax in the City of Salerno, the amount of the tax and the cases of exemption, in addition to the failure to advertise the prices charged to guests within the structure. Finally, the failure to register the structure on the “Tourist Tax” portal of the Municipality of Salerno was ascertained, in order to allow the communication of guests, their periods of overnight stay and any cases of exemption, for the calculation and subsequent payment of the Tourist Tax.
