Salerno, Arechi Castle now sees reopening

The works necessary to restore the Salerno area and its tourists to their former glory started yesterday and, weather permitting, will last about ten days. Arechi Castleclosed for safety reasons after the fire that broke out on July 30th which destroyed many hectares of the pine forest Bonadies hill. However, the so-called “Prince’s Path”. The work on the pine forest, carried out by the Province which owns the historical asset that is the symbol of the city, consists, as reported in the technical report, «in the pruning of the trees with which the normal safety conditions are restored to avoid the fall, even sudden, of the branches». The part that will be worked on is the one immediately next to the path and which affects about 130 trees, with the plan to cut down some specimens involved in the fire and which are not recoverable.

The interventions

«The contracting company – explains the work report – has made itself available to carry out the works starting as soon as possible, following the completion of the administrative procedures, and with an expected duration of six days starting from the delivery date“. Furthermore, it was planned to avail of the consultancy of a specialized technician, a forestry agronomist, who will support the company. The total amount of this part of the intervention is 23 thousand euros, even if, it is underlined in the report, “it does not resolve the situation but will only allow safe access to the monumental site, with the pine forest area downstream from the castle remaining closed to visitors». The other part of the work, instead, includes the restoration of the video surveillance and access control system and the loudspeaker system that serves to warn visitors of an imminent danger.
