The new coach of Salernitana, Stefano Colantuonoit “comes back”. The manager of the Granata youth sector was in fact entrusted with the bench after the dismissal of Giovanni Martusciello after the defeat against Bari.
«I feel good – began Colantuono, speaking of the first sensations after taking office -. A little knee problem had made me think about getting involved in the youth sector. This is my sixth year in Salerno and I have a special relationship with the club, which is why I made myself available». The coach then focused on the “treatment” to be administered to the team for the change of direction: «The championship remains to be played for and everything will be decided in the second half. CI believe that there are all the conditions to do well, but we must do it immediately. I already have some ideas to develop but I have to talk to the players, even if in the end I will decide. There will be work to do and I don’t think the change will be sudden. We must try to get results, this is the first step to take immediately, to get out of this ranking situation and luckily we have a place that pushes us. When I was in Turin we were already relegated, then Petrachi arrived and in the return round we were first».
The trainer also has a thought for his predecessor: «A hug to Giovanni Martusciello whom I greet cordially». And on the next match in the championship: «With the Sassuolo it will already be a final. A complicated match and to get a result you will need brains and concentration. We need to start from the good things done so far». The coach then sent a message of love to the square: «I want to stay in Salerno for as long as possible and I was already thinking about it Milan to renew the contract. I like working with young people. I want to stay here and they know it well. It is not a discussion mainly linked to money. I get along well with the fans and I accept criticism. I’m half Salerno and I’m not saying this to be flattering».
Together with the coach, the sporting director of Salernitana was present in the conference Gianluca Petrachi who immediately took responsibility for the choice of the new technical guide: «I chose Colantuono – he declared – because he is a pragmatist, someone who codifies everything. I am convinced that we can resume the path we took at the beginning and become the loose cannon of the championship, but the team must show the necessary healthy malice.” On the decision to change the bench: «I had perceived some critical issues – explains – and I had talked about it with Martusciello hoping that things would go differently, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. When certain errors are persisted it is necessary to change. My ambition is to find a capable team through Colantuono’s motivations. I am convinced that we have all it takes to be able to make a change».
The sporting director then spoke about what happened in August and the January transfer window: «Last summer was a tsunami: when Sottil didn’t accept the job I tried to bring some news and if this team had played in Serie A perhaps it would have done better than in the lower division. In January I hope to have the autonomy to be able to take on whoever is useful to the coach. It’s true that the team was made by me, but even following some indications, we have to be honest. I hope to have Iervolino in January on the market actively since he has taken control of the situation and I’m happy about it. He is ambitious like me and I am more aggressive than before».
