The salary of the chairman of the board of the Latvian national airline “airBaltic” Martin Gaus in the company increased by 2.9% last year – to 853,460 euros, according to the official’s annual income declaration for 2022 submitted to the State Revenue Service.

At the same time, Gauss also declared 417,519 euros of other income from AS “Air Baltic Corporation” last year.

“airBaltic” representatives indicated to the LETA agency that together with the salary declaration, the paid parts of the salary, temporarily withheld for previous years, including the board member’s bonus for 2019, which was one of the most operationally and financially successful years in the history of “airBaltic”, are indicated. in the amount of 372,187.50 euros and 20% of the deferred salary, or 45,403 euros from the salary.

The airline stated that the members of the board of “airBaltic” gave up part of their salary in order to support the efforts of “airBaltic” in March-October 2020 to overcome the Covid-19 emergency declared in the country.

At the same time, the withheld part could be paid out now, because in 2022 “airBaltic” returned to a revenue level that is almost equivalent to the performance of 2019, explained the company.

“airBaltic” representatives emphasized that Gauss refused his salary completely in the period from April to mid-May 2020, i.e. until the resumption of regular flights. This part of the reward will not be returned.

The company also informed that the variable part of the remuneration of the board members of “airBaltic” for 2020, 2021 and 2022 has not been calculated and will not be paid.

“The crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic, the granting of state aid to the airline, as well as the restrictions set by the European Commission (EC) preclude the payment of any bonuses – until the state’s capital investment in the airline has been repaid in accordance with the European Union’s aid regulations,” said representatives of “airBaltic”.

The declaration shows that Gaus still owns buildings in Germany, Austria and Italy, and property in Jurmala. Also, Gaus still jointly owns real estate in Riga.

The manager of “airBaltic” also fully owns the company “MaGau GmbH” registered in Germany.

Also, at the end of last year, the chairman of the board of the airline owned a 2017 quadricycle “Canam Quard”, but he had four cars in use – 2019 and 2021 “Tesla”, 2022 “Audi e-tron”, as well as 2019. year “Mercedes GLE”.

Gaus had no declared cash reserves at the end of 2022. On the other hand, non-cash savings in 11 different institutions totaled 645,929 euros at the end of 2022, which is 94,526 euros less than a year earlier.

The declaration shows that last year Gauss made nine transactions, the amount of which exceeded 20 minimum monthly salaries set by the Cabinet of Ministers, the total amount being 263,899 euros. Among them, he borrowed 40,990 euros and repaid 42,754 euros of the loan. Gauss also bought a motorboat for 32,561 euros and a car for 66,000 euros. Gauss invested 21,491 euros in the investment portfolio, but paid 21,081 euros for the architect’s services. He also paid the study fee in the amount of 24,000 euros and paid 15,022 euros for travel services.

At the end of 2022, Gaus also had three loans for a total of 816,236 euros, which is 1,764 euros less than the year before.

It has already been reported that in 2021, Gausa’s income from his work at “airBaltic” was 829,018 euros.

The turnover of “airBaltic” concern last year was 500.17 million euros, which is 2.5 times more than in 2021, but the company’s losses decreased 2.5 times – to 54.219 million euros.

The Latvian state owns 97.97% of “airBaltic” shares, while “Aircraft Leasing 1” owned by financial investor, Danish businessman Tūsen – 2.03%.
