The caretaker government approved additional expenses of BGN 184 million to increase salaries in state universities and scientific organizations retroactively – from April 1.
Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev clarified at a briefing in the Council of Ministers that the decree to this effect was adopted today and signed by the government.
“You know that with the Law on Higher Education, changes were made to increase the fees. 184 million (BGN) have been secured from the budget through the restructuring of expenses,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova.
The Minister of Education, Galin Tsokov, explained that the average gross salary of university professors should reach BGN 2,630, or 180% of the national average, while the coefficients in the various professional fields also change:
“Salaries for the lowest academic position – assistant, will be able to rise to 2,516 BGN. And I want to draw attention to the fact that the salary of the assistants will increase by 1,000 BGN”.
According to the government’s calculations, the increase in salaries in universities should benefit 20 thousand workers in the higher education system.
