The shoe shop “Salamander” in the city center of Dortmund is closing – or is it? The company is currently advertising with opaque posters.

Dortmund – “WE CLOSED” and “ALL REDUCED”: With screaming posters, the more than 120-year-old shoe shop “Salamander” at its branch on Dortmund’s Westenhellweg announces an approaching closure. Only: Customers should also read the relatively small print.

Because the announced closure is only temporary, as it says on a poster a little further down. At the bottom of the poster then the note “Reopening with a new concept”. So there will still be shoes at “Salamander” in Dortmund, just different. The “Depot” branches in North Rhine-Westphalia are currently using a similar poster concept.

Financial problems are behind the “Salamander” realignment. The shoe company “Ara” had already sent its retail subsidiaries “Salamander” and “Klauser” into a protective shield insolvency at the end of 2022. So far, however, there has been no talk of closing the “Salamander” branch in Dortmund.

The last reported Ruhr newsthat “Salamander” on Westenhellweg will close in September 2023 for only two weeks. After that, the branch will be reopened under a new concept, as a lawyer from the “Salamander” insolvency administration confirmed to the newspaper.

On Thursday (August 31) it became known that the “Salamander” brand had been sold to “AstorMüller” (including “Bugatti” and “Daniel Hechter”), a company from Switzerland. “AstorMüller” wants to “bring Salamander back to life” reports the industry magazine textile economy. But: Not part of the takeover by “AstorMüller” are all retail activities of all licensees of “Salamander”, i.e. the shops operating under the brand of the same name in Germany, according to industry magazines. This means that the branches under the protective shield procedure are still responsible for the concept in the local shops.
